Membership in NYSCSS:
Membership in NYSCSS is open to all persons who:
- Teach
- Supervise
- Develop curricular
- Engage in research
- Are otherwise
concerned with social studies education
By joining you will be gaining the following:
- Time and Place, the NYSCSS newsletter filled with information, articles and lesson ideas
- The Social Science Docket, a joint publication of NYSCSS and NJCSS on relevant themes in social studies
- Information of the annual convention
- Information on workshops, seminars and summer institutes
- Updates from the State Education Department
- Opportunities to network with other professionals in the field
NYSCSS is proud of its accomplishments and its strong working relationship with the State Education Department. Because of this, NYSCSS has been able to participate in:
- the development of the New York State Standards
- the creation of the Core Curriculum and state assessments at all levels
- Social Studies Summits, direct dialogues with SED
Unlike many other states where federal "No Child Left Behind" legislation has led to the elimination of social studies programs, New York has seen an expansion over the last ten years, in large part due to the advovacy for the discipline by this very active organization.

Membership in NYS4A is open to educators with leadership responsibilities for social studies curriculum development and instructional programs, pre-kindergarten through grade twelve and continuing education.
