Middle Level Committee
I have received some feedback in regards to issues that we can focus on in our Middle Level Committee. I have summarized the feedback and topics include
--Keeping middle school social studies relevant without a state assessment.
--Increasing current events within the middle school social studies curriculum.
--Dealing with the issue of students’ declining reading comprehension as well as their communication and literacy skills.
--Helping students strengthen their writing and reading ability to work with documents from elementary through middle school, so that they are successful in high school and on the Regents.
--Curriculum alignment issues.
--Communicating to parents, taxpayers and the public the importance of teaching social studies in our society in the 21st century.
--As always, new ideas and activities to interest the millennial learners that are in our classrooms.

As this is a list in progress we can continue to add and revise as necessary.  Any activities that you can think of that might increase NYSCSS membership is needed, as well as writing articles focusing on middle level education for Time and Place to “update and highlight” the activities of our committee.

I hope everyone has a safe and happy upcoming holiday
Respectfully,
Carron
